The Modern Language Association, known for its annual convention, is developing a series of conferences outside the United States and Canada. MLA International Symposia, held every few years in different countries, will enable exchange and collaboration among scholars and teachers of language, literature, and culture from across the world. The first symposium, entitled Other Europes: Migrations, Translations, Transformations, was held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 23 to 25 June 2016. Organized in collaboration with Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, it brought together a diverse and distinguished group of scholars to consider Europe’s role in a world of ever-shifting migrations, translations, and transformations.

The MLA is currently accepting proposals from organizations interested in hosting the next symposium, to be held in 2019. To learn more, please visit the call for hosts. Letters of interest are due 10 March 2017.
